Molteni&C revisits its history with an eye to the future. The 80!Molteni exhibition, the creation of the historical archive, and the recent Molteni Museum have provided the opportunity to go back to the origins of modernity.
The early 1950s marked a period of radical change in the furniture designs of Gio Ponti, moving towards innovative solutions focused on functionality and the essential nature of forms.
Several factors led Ponti towards this new approach: the end of World War II, with the desire to start over and rebuild a modern world full of new possibilities, moving away from the past; and the availability of new materials, which made it possible to conceive objects that could not have been created before.
